Trent: TY! How is it out there? Is is good? It's been a long time coming, this night. We had a privilege of playing Primavera in two th-- when was it? 2014 in Barcelona. And it was uh... It was a really fucking awesome festival, it had a great vibe. And when they asked if we wanted to play it a couple years ago here at debut in Los Angeles, we said of course we will. But... COVID had some other plans for us. The same thing next year. But finally! Here the fuck we are.

Notes
A 75 minute slot for NIN's hometown show. Zeegrizzle back on duty for taping. No encore break, no band introductions, just 75 minutes of NIN! Looking at the initial waveform, and Z pointed it out too, the levels were a bit low in the left channel. May be due to a loose AT cap or potentially a loose connection to the A10. Look in to it a bit further. All was fixed in post. Using this same rig at Riot Fest there was no issues.

Taper's Notes, "After two years of attempting to hold this festival and feature this headlining performance, the time FINALLY came for Nine Inch Nails to take the stage and headline the inaugural edition of the Los Angeles version of the Primavera Sound festival. I think, though I could be wrong, as my memory is pretty hazy on this, that I bought tickets to this event back in 2020, and through numerous postponements, I decided to hang on to them and forgo any refund, and I'm sure glad I made that decision. Despite some bad press of the festival being a "shit show" and people enduring long will call lines and such, this festival has been pretty smooth and enjoyable for me. It probably helps that I'm older than 21, as most of the festival grounds with good viewing areas of the stages are in segregated "21+" areas. Meaning all the kids (and their parents/guardians I'm guessing) are stuck in these tiny slivers of gated lands to watch the bands, while the rest of us adults have large plots to casually stroll and spread out in, which has caused a lot of online uproar. But there's nothing I can do about that, except show my 21+ wristband and enjoy some really good views to see some really good bands on some stages that, in my opinion, have some really great (and loud) sounds. No complaints. I made it to the soundboard area for NIN, which was about 40 yards from the stage I'm guessing (a little further than I like). In between acts, I overheard a few neighbors of mine talking and heard the the words "audio" and "recording" spoken, which made my ears immediately perk up. Come to find out, fellow taper "zeegrizzle" (who's been following NIN on every stop on this current US tour) was right next to me, so I introduced myself and we shot the shit for a while telling taper stories, talking gear and what not. It's always good to meet fellow tapers at shows. I seem to be a magnet for running into them, or maybe we just all congregate at the same (and usually best) taping spot? Something like that... Back to the band. NIN sounded great tonight. It was my third time seeing them and second time taping (I recorded their 2017 FYF set too, which was the last time I had seen them) and it just never gets old. Sadly, this was a festival show, so the set time was shortened to only 75 minutes, but I'll take what I can get when it comes to live NIN. It's crazy to think they're packing all their gear and flying out and playing the Riot Fest in Chicago the very next day (maybe that's why they had to end earlier in the night?). Same goes for "zeegrizzle", who's also flying out and catching the Riot Fest show the very next day. That's a crazy schedule. I mean I love festivals and all, but the last thing I wanna do after a long festival day is hop on a 5am flight to the next city. All I could think of after the show was finding my bed. Highlights for me include "The Lovers", and "The Perfect Drug" (first time hearing both). Everything about this show was just intense. The sound, the lights, the vibe. I think the recording came out well too, I didn't have too many talkers around me except a couple of girls behind me near the beginning, both of whom wanted to continually chit chat, so myself and others kept turning back to give them the evil eye. I think they eventually caught on. All that said, I feel very blessed to be living in a city with so many festivals and opportunities to see such bands playing in beautiful parks beneath starry skies. Nothing beats it. Nothing."
