Notes
This was my 4th time seeing Nine Inch Nails, and believe it or not, my first time seeing them at their own show/venue (non-festival). My best friend lives in Austin, and when she found out they were playing in town, she asked me if I would be down to go, and given I love coming to Austin (and taping shows there), I couldn't say no. Luckily she was able to snag floor (non-pit) tickets for the show, which made paying for the flights/this trip that much more worth it. After a harrowing, almost vomit-inducing, pedicab ride to the arena (which I'm vowing to never do again - I would much rather walk - but it wasn't my call), we chilled in the crisp evening air, took a photo by the metallic NIN sign (how cool) and then entered into the venue without a hitch. I bought a shirt at merch (we were smart and headed to a different merch table rather than the one by the main entrance which already had a gigantic line just 5 minutes into entry), and then headed for our seats. Thankfully, we were not seated by any annoying screamers/talkers all night, which is a Godsend, especially if you're taping shows! We were pretty close to the B stage, so we had a great view of that, but still had a clear view of the main stage as well, so I really couldn't have asked for better seats, at least from a taping perspective. The setlist was very predictable, as it didn't stray far from any other show on this tour, but I didn't expect it to. Regardless, it was the first time hearing "I'm Afraid of Americans" live, as well as some others, so I was happy nonetheless (The Frail into Reptile was so cool). I'm really glad I got spend this show with my friend too, as she's the biggest NIN fan I know (it was her 10th NIN show she told me), and she had previously seen this tour on the last leg in Houston. I dunno how many more times I'll get to see shows with her in the near future, so I'm thankful we got to spend this one together. Even if it meant flying all the way out and surviving a crazy pedicab ride to do so. Love ya. Here's to seeing them (in the "Noize" variant) at Coachella next month!
