Zeegrizzle flew the day after the LA show to Chicago for Riot Fest. My brother and I met up with him prior to the festival and spent the day chilling. It was nice to reconnect with friends and family! We got in to the festival around 5 and we made a spot just in front of the soundboard for NIN, dead center. The sound was incredible (as usual) for Riot Fest. The first half of the show was just an onslaught of bangers. Really loved Heresy from this show. Z's capture is the best from the night. My recording was compromised with the wrong settings. Which, that's all good. This tape is amazing. We had a few talkers behind us, but the AT853s do great with the pattern they have reducing the amount of talking you hear from them. Was really grateful to see one last show on this tour with some of my good friends. Thank you again to Z for taping all these shows. He is an absolute beast and I feel like every tape he does he is getting better and better! As he just started taping in April. Very cool!

I've been working on mixing this one for the last two years as well.. Just like Franklin. There were multiple times that I would been on a roll and then Audition would crash and I would have forgotten to save the file. So, the motivation to finish it would be gone. I'd forget about it and then come back to it... It's finally finished! As my audience tape came out brick walled to hell, I used Zee's recording. We stood next to each other and it represents how unreal the sound was at this Festival, and always is. I am very impressed how they get it so crisp. There are 3 IEM feeds used in this matrix. Some fluctuations during the first two songs but is flawless afterwards. As to some feedback from the last mix, I have toned down Trent's vocals to not be so prominent in the mix. This one was a bit difficult to sync together as even though stretching each recording to sync. They would still drift during the show. So I had to re-sync every 2 minutes or so. Plus removing all of the click tracks, it was a very tedious editing/mixing. But I am happy with the work involved to make this a very flawless capture of the Riot Fest set.

A 75 minute slot for NIN's hometown show. Zeegrizzle back on duty for taping. No encore break, no band introductions, just 75 minutes of NIN! Looking at the initial waveform, and Z pointed it out too, the levels were a bit low in the left channel. May be due to a loose AT cap or potentially a loose connection to the A10. Look in to it a bit further. All was fixed in post. Using this same rig at Riot Fest there was no issues.

Taper's notes, "The only indoor venue with set times being an hour later than usual for this tour. Seats were in the 200 level in front of the right speakers. Taped Yves Tumor since it was their last show supporting. There's just something special about NIN playing in Las Vegas. Incredible set with plenty of classic hits especially from the pre 2000's material along with some fan favorite deep cuts, a couple of Bowie covers and finally the US tour debut of Down In It! With banger after banger, this might just be the best setlist yet from this tour."

Taper's notes, "Really digging all the amphitheaters for this run, especially these last two. Stood dead center in the back of the pit again. A very heavy Downward Spiral leaning set with Mr. Self Destruct opening once again. Aggressive start and finish with a very smooth flow overall. This Isn't The Place just wrecks my soul every single time I hear it. Trent seemed to be in a better mood tonight, although the encore was cut short due to strict curfew. Echoplex and Survivalism were listed on the printed setlist before Even Deeper, but not played."

Taper's notes, "Taped Yves Tumor set. Stood dead center in the back of the pit. Can't get over how unpredictable NIN's sets are becoming. Wild flow with lots of curve balls all over this one. God Break Down The Door delivers every single time, even though Trent says he gets a little worse on the sax every single day lol. 1,000,000 was aborted mid-way unfortunately due to technical issues with Robin's synth which probably made Trent pissed and toss his guitar up behind Alessandro for the end of Gave Up. Very surprising encore with strong Dissonance 1995 vibes for Subterraneans (w/ GBDTD lyrics), Reptile and Hurt."

Taper's notes, "Stood a little back and to the right of the control booth again. Very nice and open venue in the middle of a neighborhood that I'm sure a lot of residents were very appreciative of the lovely free show they got. March Of The Pigs as the set opener for the first time was a really strong start and huge surprise! Also, Something I Can Never Have got a shooting star right at the very end. An unbelievable beginning for the set and overall really nice flow with a few deep cuts. This encore though... Somewhat Damaged with The Day The World Went Away and Hurt gets jealous of SICNH's magical moment earlier with the shooting star and one ups it with its own just before the end of the show! What is actually happening with this tour and is this real life?"

Taper's notes, "Stood just a little back and to the right of the control booth. Amazing weather the whole night and now blessed with some legit external mics. La Mer seemed very fitting, complementing the beautiful and secluded village/venue. The Perfect Drug finally makes another appearance in the encore... just WOW. Then into And All That Could Have Been?! Another first with those two being played back to back. Overall a really fresh, balanced and diverse set for the night."

Taper's notes, "Seats were a little better this night. Taped Yves Tumor again. Sat on row 24 in front of the right speakers. Used the windscreen this time and the wind was even heavier than the night before. Held the recorder in my hand and pointed at the speakers again so no external mics were used, but the stock mics on this recorder work really great. The Beginning Of The End opening the set with the house lights still on was really cool. Sunspots and Everything are personal highlights for obvious reasons with also a nice speech from Trent about the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert."

Taper's notes, "Decided to tape Yves Tumor not only because I love the band, but also because it's Red Rocks. Had a pretty good view with the very last seat on row 22 on the left. Windscreen wasn't used over the mics unfortunately, so there are some very loud wind noises especially at the beginning, but slows down a lot after Sin. I just held the recorder in my hand and pointed at the speakers above the stage for the whole show, so no external mics were used. Discipline and The Big Come Down in the encore are just a couple of personal highlights. Overall a long, chunky and bangin' set to start out with these new shows."
